A simple guide to Dragon Cry
First off, on behalf of the staff I would like to welcome you to Dragon Cry! We try and keep this place a fun and easy-going environment so please enjoy your stay. We are a very free-form Roleplay and we've done our best to make sure our players have as much freedom as possible. However, there are, and always will be, rules which need to be read and understood, and this thread will serve as an index that will hopefully help you understand everything about the systems we use on this site. It should also fill you in on some of the little things your character should know.
Firstly the basic ground rules, which if you have been on RPGs before you are more than likely well acquainted with already.
- Don’t godmod – The golden rule of any RP. You should not be responsible for the actions of any other player's character. Because of the freedom we allow in our storylines here, you can control any NPCs that have been brought in by yourselves, but don’t start controlling other characters in your posts. This also extends to declaring hits or successful attacks on characters played by someone else.
- Don’t metagame – The ever-present companion to the first rule. Discussion between players is fine, but you shouldn’t introduce any OOC knowledge into your IC posts unless the character has a reason to know it. This also includes internal monologues that the other character might have done, that you read, but your character didn’t hear.
- No Double Accounts - Each player on the site is allowed to have only one account. If anyone is caught trying to gain more characters by creating additional accounts, they will be forced to choose one account. The other account, as well as all characters on it, will be deleted. In some cases, additional penalties may be applied.
- Use Common Sense - There are a number of things which aren't explicitly stated here, but really, it's just common sense. Don't spam topics that aren't meant to be spam; don't be racist, any of that stuff; be reasonable.
The second thing that you would be interested in is the setting and the character creation process. There is no limit to what we expect you to write, but it is encouraged that you take the time to develop the character as much as you can, so people reading your profile will have a good idea who they’re playing with.
- Plot – Our storyline is set in an alternate universe to the Fairy Tail series, so all canon characters don't exist. No one is related to them, nor should they feature in your character’s lives. This also means no canon characters are allowed to be played. In this world, it has been 10 years since the Dragon's vanished and the current year is X784.
- Setting - Currently Dragon Cry is primarily set in the Kingdom of Fiore, but we do allow travel to other countries on the Eastern Continent of Ishgar. The Northern, Western and Southern Continents are currently unavailable for play.
- Number of characters – Players may make up to five characters on the site, with separate accounts for each character. Only two of their characters may have a Limited Magic such as a Slayer element or a Lost magic. If your first character takes a Limited Magic, your second character may not.
- Types of Characters - One common misconception I've encountered on Fairy Tail roleplays is that everyone has to play a Mage. This is not the case on Dragon Cry; if you wish to play a non-magical character or a civilian, it is perfectly valid to do so. Though your Mage Rank would need to be flavored as something else, or removed entirely for a civilian character.
- Starting Out – All characters can start at any Rank except for S Rank, so long as the history and story provide logic for it. Without any kind of acceptable circumstance things like a 5 year old human A Rank.
- Fitting the Theme - Elements of characters, magics or items can be denied by the staff team for not fitting in with the lore or themes Fairy Tail setting. This can be something like its physical appearance or something tonally misplaced. For example, an Exceed should not have pronounced horns extending from their head or rainbow fur for example, since it's not something an Exceed can posses.
- Things your character should know - Your character should at least have some knowledge of the recent events and new powerful groups that exist in the site's own lore. You can find more information here.
After you have read all of that and familiarized yourself with the rules and decided you want to join our site, please copy the application here and post it on the board here.
Other important rules for the roleplay you should read such as the rules regarding death, face claims and links to both the proboards terms of service and the chatango terms of use which are both required to be adhered to by all members of the site.
- Face Claims - Play-bys/face claims must be artistic representations, not real life people. Anime or manga graphics, pixel dolls, and drawings are all acceptable depictions for characters' faces. It is recommended but not enforced that you use an anime or manga styled face claim.
- Third Person - All roleplay posts, techniques and character sheets or other forms of written media on the site, unless specified otherwise, should be written in Third Person.
- Plagiarism - Plagiarism is expressly forbidden. Anyone caught stealing another members work, or work from other sources such as alternative roleplay sites that they cannot 100% prove is their own work, will be punished. Plagiarism is a serious offence and can lead to severe consequences.
- Proboards and Chatango Terms of Service - Just remember that there are rules that apply to all sites on these hosts, such as no NSFW content, no rape discussion, ect. Here is a link to the Proboards Terms of Service and here is a link to the Chatango Terms of Service.
